Indic Languages – வாங்க vs. Vaanga

Posted in Uncategorized on June 5th, 2010 by admin – 3 Comments

Quick question? Which title word you read first?

We can surely bet it was the non-English word! Right?

We have been live for a while now and more books are getting added every day. You can browse our collection to find new titles.

Guess which is the most popular book in our library?

Tamil

Yes this Tamil book has attracted more page views than any other book in our library.

To be frank we were only mildly surprised. When we started working on the library, we had set our goal that our web application should be 100% multi language compliant and should support every language. We believe its more easier to read native language than Anglicized.

We too think that HTML5 will be the standard format of display in the next generation web applications.

We feel encouraged that our visitors also like non-English books and browsing them.

But its hard work on us. Especially in India where there are so many languages and we wish we were a polyglot like our Former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao but sadly we don’t speak that many languages.

So how do we do it?

1) We use Google Transliteration, its an excellent tool to convert English-like words into native language which is UTF-8 compliant.

2) We also used a professional language company called Lyric Labs. They are an ISO 9001 certified company and they handled our work very diligently and gave us a very quick turnaround. They quickly typeset nearly 11 Indic languages for us and we can definitely recommend their work.

Don’t you find your favorite author or books in your favorite language?

Please suggest us and we will stock them.
